Cold storage warehouse vs. freezer warehouse
The main focus of our company’s activities is on vegetable assortments, vegetables and fruit stored in freezer and refrigerated conditions. Two types of space are therefore needed to ensure optimal conditions: a cold storage warehouse and a freezer warehouse. What are their characteristics?

Key features of refrigerated cold storage warehouses

Cold storage is good for products that retain their quality and freshness at moderate temperatures. This includes different refrigeration zones, depending on the specific characteristics of the products. The refrigeration systems in cold storage warehouses must maintain a constant temperature to ensure proper storage conditions for the products and avoid spoilage. This most often oscillates between 0°C and +12°C and the warehouse functions as a freezer storage facility.

Characteristics of refrigerated warehouses

Despite the similar construction of the facility, monitoring systems and the provision of highly effective insulation, freezer warehouses are adapted to maintaining deep, semi-deep and blast-freezing of food products. The temperature usually fluctuates between -18°C and -24°C, but can be even lower depending on the requirements (blast-freezing and airflow -40°C). Thanks to these conditions, food products retain their quality, taste and nutritional value for a long time.

How are refrigerated containers used?

The refrigerated containers used by Greenyard Logistics Poland are otherwise known as reefer containers (from ‘refrigerated container’), like those used in sea transport. They are special types of transport space that are designed to store and transport products at controlled temperatures. They are widely used in international logistics, especially in the food industry. We use them extensively with our business partners in national, international and sea distribution.

Advanced transport freezers are equipped with specialised cooling, temperature control and monitoring systems to maintain the right conditions throughout transport. Prior storage of frozen food and proper transportation allows us to deliver vegetables, fruits, mixes and other food products to our customers in perfect condition.

Blast-freezing and its application

One of the most important processes in the preparation of frozen goods is to bring their temperature down without allowing ice crystals to multiply. To achieve this effect in the shortest possible time, blast-freezing is used. This is a food processing process in which products are rapidly cooled from a high to a very low temperature in a short period of time. The aim of this process is to quickly stop the chemical and biological processes occurring inside the food, helping to preserve the quality, texture, taste and nutritional value of the product.

How is blast-freezing performed at Greenyard Logistics Poland? The process consists of four stages:

  • product preparation – products are cleaned, peeled or sliced (as recommended) to make them ready for freezing,
  • freezing – the products are frozen in chambers and tunnels to rapidly reduce their temperature,
  • freezing to critical value – the temperature drops to the point where ice crystals form,
  • storage – once the blast freezing process is complete, the products are ready for further travel.
  • Forwarding, transport and management of your frozen goods

At Greenyard Logistics Poland, we do everything to ensure that the foodstuffs we offer retain their quality for as long as possible.
